Success Stories: The Alkalasi Family

Brit Kodesh
We have had many touching experiences in recent times. Many stories of heroism and sacrifice of fighters and of the people of Israel who enlisted and united for the people and the country. Lema’an Achai has the privilege of accompanying dozens of families evacuated from the south. Each family with its own story. One case stands out because it was not a story of heroism, but a simple case in which the Lema’an Achai family enlisted to help the Netivot family fulfill an important mitzvah – circumcision.
The son of the Alkalasi couple (not their real name) was born about two weeks after the outbreak of the war, and the family was forced to evacuate Netivot to Beit Shemesh. They came to town with a newborn baby, and they didn’t know anyone. The Circumcision/Brit needed to be arranged and they had no idea where to start. They mentioned the matter in a conversation with Lema’an Achai’s social worker, who had trouble holding back her tears. She recruited the organization's dedicated staff, who took on another mission – and so Operation Circumcision began. A hall was organized, and food was ordered from a local caterer – all the expenses were paid by Lema’an Achai. All that was left for the parents to do was contact the mohel. The moving moment when the mohel announced the baby’s name is deeply etched in the hearts of the people who were there. It is difficult to describe in words the gratitude of the Alkalasi family. We wish them to raise him to Torah, Chuppah and good deeds!
