Lema'an Achai empowers, rather than entitles. By providing the less fortunate with the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty, we bring them through, then out of, crisis. Our unique approach–Smart Chesed–facilitates growth leading towards self-sufficiency.
So how do we help people pull themselves out of poverty? In a nutshell, by helping people learn how to better manage and provide for themselves. By instilling hope, by encouraging people to try new things, by sharing our experience and professional expertise, by advocating, and by simply being there with the consistent message: you can do better and you're worth it!
Naturally it sounds easier than it is, and at times, when poverty has become chronic or is compounded with illness the process can prove very tenacious. But we have found time and again that the fundamental principles remain the same, even if requiring lengthier and more intense intervention: professional treatment and counseling, regular prodding and mentoring, and moral and material support.
