Who we are?

Lema'an Achai is a unique social service resource which combines the experience of a small professional staff with the enthusiasm of hundreds of volunteers.

Our volunteers include professional social workers, attorneys, mental health practitioners, nurses, certified public accountants, physicians and dentists, building tradesmen, mechanics and drivers, who represent a diverse spectrum of the Ramat Beit Shemesh community.

Founded in the year 2000, by a group of local residents, Lema'an Achai is rooted in Judaism’s communal responsibility towards charity and chesed (kindness). Our Smart Chesed philosophy translates concern for our neighbors into highly successful interventions at minimum cost.

What we do?

Lema'an Achai assists families in need and enables them to get back on their feet, becoming financially and socially independent. We provide vital support services, through a combination of professional and volunteer services, which provide direct aid, rehabilitation and empowerment for struggling families.

Why we need you

In recent months, our organization has seen a dramatic 100% rise in calls for help. We find ourselves forced to either turn away families or reduce our level of services. We are turning to you to ask that you listen to the cry of your brothers and sisters in Israel who are experiencing difficulties, and offer to sponsor one of our programs or pledge a generous donation to Lema'an Achai so that we can continue our vital work.

Mission statement

Lema'an Achai's aim is to assist needy families in Ramat Beit Shemesh in breaking the cycle of poverty by providing them with the tools they need to cope with their problems. We facilitate their growth and lead them towards self-sufficiency.

We rely on the support of over 500 unpaid volunteers who run the majority of our programs. Many are specialists in their fields, including social workers, lawyers or financial advisors, who donate their free time to help others.

Our professional staff helps them to develop, evaluate and disseminate programs that foster ethical, social and intellectual development, in a spirit of mutual respect and in accordance with halacha (Jewish law). The majority of our funds are raised within the community itself. Lema'an Achai has developed a unique concept of community service and caring - Smart Chesed - which we hope to develop further in years to come.
